Seal set for Hayward SuperPump SP / RS 2 VSTD pool pump
The shaft seal is perhaps the hardest-working little component in your pool pump. It ensures that no water leaks in past the rotating motor shaft. When this seal wears out, you often see drips or a puddle appear under the pump, sometimes followed by squeaking or whining noises. With this seal set, you'll make your Hayward SuperPump or RS 2 VSTD watertight again, without having to buy a whole new pump straight away.
When do you replace the seal?
A leaking shaft is the moment to take action. Do you notice water under the pump at the start of the swimming season, or does a running pump start making a screeching noise over time? Then the mechanical seal is worn out. The seal is also often the first casualty after a frost period in which water has remained in the pump. By replacing it in time, you prevent leaking water from entering the bearings and motor — which saves you a much more expensive repair.

This seal set is made for a wide range of Hayward pumps from the SuperPump series and the RS 2 VSTD. Specifically, this includes the models SP1608, SP1611, SP1616 and SP1622, the SP2608, SP2611 and SP2616, including the three-phase versions, plus the Hayward RS 2 VSTD. Always check the model number on the sticker or nameplate of your pump against this list, so you can be sure you're getting the right seal.
Installing it yourself
Replacing the seal is a job you can easily do yourself with a bit of skill. First switch off the power and close the valves, remove the motor from the pump housing and detach the impeller. Tap out the old seal, and carefully press the new one straight into place — make sure you keep the smooth ceramic surfaces clean and grease-free for a proper seal. While you have the pump housing open, this is also a good moment to check the O-rings.
