The Mega 4-way valve with clamp lid 1.5″ topmount is the control centre of your FSP sand filter set. This multiport valve is mounted on top of the filter tank (topmount) and secured with a practical clamp lid, allowing you to fit the valve onto the tank without tools and in just a few seconds. With the lever on top, you select the correct setting for each maintenance moment in one motion, keeping your pool water clear throughout the season.
What is a 4-way valve for?
A 4-way valve is the more compact variant of the classic 6-way valve and contains the four positions you need for solid filter maintenance. The advanced positions — such as recirculation and waste — are missing from a 4-way valve, but for an average residential pool, the four basic functions are more than sufficient. The positions of the Mega 4-way valve are:
- Filter — the standard position for daily filtration of the pool water. The water flows from top to bottom through the sand bed.
- Backwash (backwashing) — reverses the water flow and flushes dirt from the sand bed away to the drain. Use this position as soon as you notice weaker flow or higher filter pressure.
- Rinse (rinsing) — flushes the stirred-up, dirty water away briefly after backwashing, so your pool doesn't switch back to filtering with cloudy water.
- Closed — completely shuts off the water flow, for example during pump maintenance or when winterising your system.
What is the advantage of a clamp lid?
With a clamp lid version, the 4-way valve is not fixed to the tank with bolts, but secured with a clamp ring around the edge of the filter tank. This offers several concrete advantages: you can quickly loosen the valve for inspection or replacement of the sand, you don't need any tools, and there is less chance of rusted or leaking bolts. Ideal for the user-friendly FSP sand filter sets.
When should you replace the 4-way valve?
Is your current 4-way valve leaking around the handle or the connections? Is water running to the waste outlet during the filter setting? Then the rubber seal (spider gasket) inside is often worn. In many cases, replacing this rubber is sufficient, but after several seasons of intensive use, the valve itself may develop cracks, hairline fractures or internal wear. At that point, a full replacement is the most durable solution — this prevents water loss, chemical imbalance and unnecessary strain on your filter pump.
Compatibility and installation

Always check both the product title and the specifications to see whether this valve fits your sand filter model — topmount means that the valve is mounted on top of the tank (not on the side as with sidemount models) and the clamp lid must match the tank diameter of your FSP filter. The 1.5″ connections (50 mm PVC solvent weld) are the standard size for this filter range and fit directly onto the existing pipework.
