Höfats Ellipse Fire Bowl Grill Grate
Do you have a Höfats Ellipse fire bowl? Then this grill grate takes it to a higher level in one go. Where you previously only enjoyed the fire, you can now also bake, grill and barbecue – right above the glowing coals. You simply hang the grate over the edge of the (tilted) bowl, without screws or hassle, and you're ready to cook.
I find this such a nice accessory because it literally makes your fire bowl work double duty: first atmosphere and warmth for your guests, then a hot meal straight from the fire. The grilling surface of about 55 x 35 cm offers enough space for vegetables, meat or fish all at once.
Why this grate lasts for years
The Ellipse grill grate is made entirely of stainless steel, and you can tell. The grate bars are sturdily built with a thickness of no less than 6 mm – that's considerably stronger than the thin wire grates you often see. Thick material doesn't bend under the weight of your food and also retains heat well, which results in beautiful, even grill marks.
Because it's stainless steel, you don't have to worry about rust. Especially with a fire bowl that stands outside and is exposed to fire, heat and moisture, that's worth its weight in gold. A stainless steel grate withstands those conditions without compromising on quality, so you can rely on it season after season.
How you control the heat
Grilling over fire is all about control, and you simply have that in your own hands here. Want more heat? Then slide extra coals under the grate. Is something nearly done and do you want to keep it warm? Then simply push the coals to the side. This way you naturally create zones with more and less heat – ideal for preparing different dishes at the same time.

This grate is specially designed for the Höfats Ellipse fire bowl and fits it seamlessly. It doesn't offer an ergonomic, upright grilling height like a standalone barbecue, but in return you get an authentic experience: cooking over open fire, with atmosphere and flavour.
