Why a number is better than a color
With traditional test kits, you have to estimate color differences with your own eyes, which always involves a bit of guesswork. This Checker uses an LED at a fixed wavelength of 525 nm and a silicon photodetector that objectively reads the color. The result: a measurement with a resolution of 0.01 ppm and an accuracy of ±0.03 ppm ±3% of the measured value. This way, you can be sure your water isn’t over-chlorinated and that you won’t end up with stinging eyes or a chlorine odor.
Here’s how to take a measurement
Fill a cuvette with pool water and set the meter to zero. Then add the included reagent, which reacts with the free chlorine to turn pink. Replace the cuvette, press the button, and read the result. The entire process takes barely more than a minute. The meter uses a modification of the EPA-approved USEPA Method 330.5 (DPD), the same method used in professional settings.
What you want to achieve
To keep your pool healthy and enjoyable, you should generally maintain free chlorine levels between 1 and 3 ppm. With a measurement range of 0.00 to 2.50 ppm, this Checker is specifically designed for lower chlorine levels (LR – low range), allowing you to measure very accurately and make precise adjustments, especially in that critical lower range. Ideal for swimming pools, spas, and hot tubs with fresh water.

It runs on a single 1.5 V AAA battery and automatically turns off after 10 minutes of inactivity, helping to conserve battery life. Use it at temperatures between 0 and 50 °C.
