How to use 'Fix A Leak' Anti-leak remedy for pools and spas?
- Stop the filtration system before adding Fix-a-leak to the water. Other types : remove the DE cartridge elements from the filtration tank. Circulate the water through an empty tank.
- When the pump is working, slowly add Fix-a-leak through the skimmer, or for any intake system.
- After adding Fix-a-leak, adjust the suction at the main drain. If this is not possible, a bottom suction can be used. The latter can be placed without difficulty in the deepest part of the pool and connected to the normal connection to the main drain. Place the valve for the filter at the normal suction position.
- Fix-a-leak is very thick and will move fairly quickly to the deepest part of the pool. Fix-a-leak must be mixed in suspension either manually via a pool "bromine" or mechanically via an automatic pool cleaner every 4 to 6 hours during water circulation.
- Circulate the water until the leak is plugged.
- Mark the water level and check for 2-3 days to see if the leak has disappeared.
- After sealing the leak and observing the repair time (24 to 48 hours days), you can return to normal filtration. Sand filters : set the tap to filtration and resume normal procedure. A Backwash of the unused Fix-a-leak is required. Other systems : put the filter back into the tank and resume normal procedure. Backwash the unused Fix-a-leak. Note : never let filter cartouches or DE elements dry without having cleaned them first.
- If necessary, repeat the treatment.
Leaks in the intake system.
Leaks in the intake system are revealed via air bubbles on return. Often the intake system leaks when the filter pump is not working. Normal water circulation and a pump not working would prevent Fix-a-leak from reaching the leak. You must reverse the water circulation to force the product through the leak under pressure. Preferably 5-10 psi until the leak is plugged. When this is done, increase the pressure little by little to 15-25 psi to ensure a good seal. Very important : after sealing the leak in the intake system, the repaired system must be stopped for a minimum of 48 hours. The product requires time to seal and cure.
Miscellaneous Leaks.
If you suspect leaks at connections in the pool (ex: return connections, lights, stairs), stop the pump. Apply the product via a bottle (ketchup bottle) directly to the leak. Allow the product to act for a minimum of 48 hours before resuming water circulation. Fix-a-leak can also be used preventively. The product covers every surface it comes in contact with, preventing the formation of rust or deterioration.
