A skimmer is essential for a clean pool. When building a pool in the garden, it is important to think carefully about water filtration, because a clean pool makes a swim more appealing. The skimmer feeds water to the filtration system and also captures debris.

Basis for a clean pool

Pool water naturally attracts dirt. Leaves, insects and other debris can end up in the water. With a skimmer, you avoid having to use a scoop net all the time; it automatically feeds debris to the pool pump. The result: less vacuuming and leaf shoveling. A skimmer is a must-have for every pool.

How does a pool skimmer work?

A skimmer, placed in the pool like a basket, instantly catches the coarse debris. It is easily connected to the filter pump. The water is first drawn through the skimmer, where leaves and insects are collected. Smaller particles remain in the pump filter, keeping the water clean and preventing dirt from sinking to the bottom, which simplifies maintenance.

Installation and maintenance

Place the skimmer below the pool edge and make sure the water is at least halfway up the skimmer for optimal operation. In rectangular pools, two skimmers are often placed on the short side, close to the filter system. For advice on the ideal placement, please contact us.

In terms of maintenance, it's simple: empty the skimmer basket regularly to prevent clogging. This takes little time and keeps your pool in top condition.

Different skimmer types

Select a skimmer to match your pool, preferably in a color that matches other built-ins such as injectors and vacuum connections. Next, pay attention to the type of skimmer you need.

Narrow or wide squeegee?

A narrow squeegee is suitable for round and oval pools and offers a reach of about 2 meters. For rectangular pools with a larger surface area, a wide squeegee is recommended, with a reach of about 3 meters.

Floodline skimmer

With a wide suction nozzle, there is also the option for a high-water line skimmer, which allows you to raise the water level by 5 to 10 inches. This gives the pool a tighter look and a slightly deeper effect.

Surface Skimmer

For attachment pools, there is a special surface skimmer, which hangs from the pool edge with a bracket and connects to the filter pump.
